UF Housing Options:UF students are not required to live on-campus during their first year. Whether the student is an incoming freshman, a transfer student or a returning student, he/she can choose from both on-campus and off-campus apartments and dorms. It is recommended that students find housing within walking distance of UF classes, because on-campus parking is severely limited and most undergraduate students will not qualify for parking decals which will allow them to park within walking distance of their classes. National studies show that students living in residence halls their first year tend to do better in their classes and attend more of their classes, as opposed to students who live in an apartment their first year at college. In most cases, students choose their housing based on age of the building, bathroom arrangements, social atmosphere, room size, and year built.
